MilitaryEzyInfo.com – A direct successor to the short-lived Bell 427 helicopter, the Bell 429 is one of the longest-running milestones in the history of the company’s successful Bell 206/407 twin-engine models.
Commonly known as the “Global Ranger”
The 429 is called “GlobalRanger” and comes with many useful features. The first prototype first flew on February 27, 2007, and was put into service in 2009.
GlobalRanger is currently (2017) in-service in Australia, Canada, Kuwait, Oman, Puerto Rico, Slovakia, Sweden, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States, performing both military and civilian functions.
Type 429 was a glider designed to overcome the inherent limitations of the short-lived Type 427 as part of Type 427.
However, this approach was abandoned and a new, more modular design was developed.
While the 427’s gearbox and engine system follow the previous design, the 429 is a completely new aircraft. It made its first flight in 2007 and continued testing until 2008.
In 2009, the aircraft was certified for production, paving the way for series production. The customer for the start-up phase is Air Methods (USA).
It can accommodate one pilot and two crew members.
The Model 429 can accommodate one pilot and two crew members in an adjacent cockpit (the cockpit is a digitally controlled “glass” design).
The rear cabin can accommodate up to six passengers. Dimensions: 41.7 feet long, 36 feet wide (including rotor diameter), and 13.2 feet high.
Empty weight is 4,245 pounds and the maximum take-off weight (MTOW) is 7,000 pounds. The landing gear is a simple four-point skid, with optional telescopic landing gear available.
The MEDEVAC version (MEDEVAC) has an optional rear cargo ramp/door (claw) that can carry a medical stretcher and limited support personnel.
The cockpit is equipped with three large multi-function displays (MFDs) that are part of the BasiX-Pro integrated avionics system, as well as other advanced systems and subsystems. Pedals and control levers are provided on both sides of the cockpit for bicycle and collective use.

The power source is two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW207D1 turboshaft engines (625 horsepower each) that drive the four-bladed main rotor (integral) in the fuselage and the four-bladed tail rotor (twin) in the tail (offset to the left).
Maximum speed of the Bell 429
Its specifications were designed for a maximum speed of 180 mph, a cruise speed of 172.5 mph, and a range of 450 miles. The highest altitude in recorded service is 20,000 feet.
At this point (2017), the 429 could overtake its predecessor, the 427, as the true successor to the 206/407 twin.
