Missile Systems on The Coast of Russia | In the modern world, the protection of sea borders of the state becomes one of the priority goals of the army and navy.
Missile Systems on The Coast of Russia
MilitaryEzyInfo.com – For the bioresources of coastal waters and, more importantly, shelf deposits of minerals in the situation of their widespread depletion acquire exceptional value for those countries which want to develop dynamically in the future. Against this background, the defense of coastal zones and territorial sea areas is a non-trivial task that requires effective tools.
Coastal Defense Missile Systems
With the advent of high-precision weapons, missile systems of different basing have become such a jewel of a tool. Owing to their long-range, the possibility of flight correction to the target and destructive power of warheads, this type of weapon today makes it possible to fight efficiently not only against landing units of the enemy fleet, but also to destroy large ships right up to aircraft carriers. Thus causing unacceptable damage to the attacking party. Moreover, the range of the latest supersonic missiles such as the “Zirkon” has grown to 1,000 kilometers, which makes the use of aircraft carrier groups in strikes against the coast essentially meaningless. The radius of combat use of deck aviation does not exceed 800 kilometers.
The Bal Missile System
This is a coastal defense system consisting of four launchers with eight Kh-35 family missiles on each, two staff control cars, and four transport-loading MAZ-7930-based vehicles. The confident range of the system allows engaging targets from 120 to 260 kilometers respectively, depending on the version of the missile. There is a possibility of single firing, as well as volley, with an interval between launches of 3 seconds. Guidance missiles on the launch are made through its own radar station. Besides, the complex can be easily integrated into any information loops of the coastal defense command. The number of service personnel of all components of the system is 46 people.
The development of the system started in the early 2000s with the purpose to replace outdated coastal defense missile systems, and by 2004 the first samples had already been put on trial. In 2008 Bal was adopted for service. All missile and artillery brigades of the Russian Navy’s land units are now equipped with it.
Bastion Missile System
This most powerful element of the protection of the country’s territorial waters and coastal area was developed and adopted in service as a replacement for the technically and morally obsolete older coastal defense missile complexes. In the event of a full-scale war, it will become a decisive argument in the fights for supremacy over the ocean expanses. After all, in addition to the regular Onyxes, this model has the ability to use Calibers as ammunition, and in the future, the Zirkons as well. That consequently changes the balance of power in the coastal and mid-ocean areas.
The system entered service in 2010 in two modifications – mobile version “Bastion-p mobile version and stationary version “Bastion-c”. The first consists of four mobile launchers with a pair of missiles on each of them, one command and control vehicle, a combat duty vehicle, and four transport-loading all-terrain vehicles. It has several channels of detection, capture, and targeting, including satellite. Both variants of the complex are integrated into the general coastal defense control system. The standard P-800 “Onyx” munition, with a range of 120 to 600 kilometers, allows the Bastion to engage a variety of targets both on land and at sea. The use of this system against militants in Syria has proven its high effectiveness not only against sea targets but also against land targets.
